It looks like a Mitsubishi Starion Ferrari.
Although there are few Ferraris you can call ugly, this Meera S is one of them. RM Sotheby’s will sell it at its sale in Paris on February 2.
Giovanni Michelotti, the legendary designer of this machine, created it with an odd look. It was the last.Ferrari After a long career as a designer for Vignale, he was able to design many vehicles for the Italian brand. He worked for several other companies. Alfa Romeo , Lancia , Maserati Triumph.
Michelotti was commissioned by the Saudi Arabian Royal to design this Ferrari in 1980s. Although the donor car is a Ferrari 400i, not much remains. It now has a wedge-shaped profile and protruding fenders. The tail tilts up at the rear of the body, making it particularly bizarre.
The Meera S looks strikingly similar to the Mitsubishi Starion, which was also made in the 1980s. Both the roof and rear windows are very similar and both have pop-up headlights.
It wasn’t just the design that made the Meera S so special. It also featured rain wipers at each side window. These are not visible in the photos taken by RM Sotheby’s, but you can see them in the video below.
It was originally equipped with a monitor that could display a video feed. However, the auction photos show that a traditional rearview lens eventually replaced it. A twin air-conditioning system was installed to keep the room cool.
According to RM Sotheby’s, the Meera S was restored by Ferrari Classiche in 2020. According to reports, the work cost EUR252,100. It included a rebuild of the engine, new exhaust, and other work.
Ferrari 400i was powered by a 4.8-liter V12 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injector. Buyers could also get an automatic transmission, just like this one. This gearbox was actually purchased from General Motors by the Italian brand.
