This SUV is truly the ultimate SUV that can go anywhere and do anything.
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog has a wide range of uses. This SUV is equally at home on road and on the Dakar course. German officials use the 4×4 to put out fires when the SUV isn’t tearing up the circuit or lounging about.
This Unimog U 5023 was transformed by the Kirchzarten volunteer fire brigade into a firefighting machine. It’s perfect for fighting fires in Germany’s Black Forest because of its 17.7 inch (450 millimeter) ground clearance and full-time four-wheel-drive.
This SUV can produce 793 gallons (3,000 L) of water per minute with a Ziegler pump. The total capacity is 1,056 gallons (4000 liters), and there are an additional 132 gallons (560 liters) for foam storage. The Unimog is powered by a BlueTec 6 diesel engine with 231 horsepower (70 kilowatts) & 663 lbft (900 Newton-meters) torque.
What good is a Unimog that can firefight without another Unimog (pictured below). Greenworx has its Unimog U430 for tree removal. This crane is capable of lifting up large trees and stumps, unlike the Kirchzarten fire brigade.
The Greenworx Unimog is powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 229 horsepower (220 megawatts). It can travel just 56 mph on the road when paired with an automatic gearbox. Although it is slow, Brett Skelton, the owner, says that everyone in this industry wants one. “Now I can see why,” he said.
