Photos from the 2018 Mustang hint at the possibility of a new Boss 302.
The Ford Mustang got a significant facelift in 2018, which was a major overhaul. The iconic pony car got rid of the V6 and replaced it with an EcoBoost engine. It also received a a href=”https://www.motor1.com/news/133813/2018-ford-mustang-facelift-comparison/”>pretty significant facelift for the 2018 model year. It’s the part Ford didn’t reveal that makes us curious.
A part of the Mustang Boss 302 can clearly be seen in the 2018 Mustang GT interior press photos, as pointed out by an Fox News reader. It’s unclear if Ford is suggesting a new Boss 302 or if Ford simply used a 2012 Boss 302 to add effect.
If a new Boss Mustang is indeed on the way, we will see it in a hotter trim than the 2013 model. It could even be joined with a resurrected Bullitt Mustang. The last Boss 302 had a 444-horsepower (331 kilowatts) V8 – a significant increase over the 312-horsepower GT at that time – and as many as 380 pound feet (515 Newton-meters). All of this was paired with a six-speed MT82 manual gearbox.
Buyers will be limited to the GT-trim top trim for now. Ford has not yet revealed how much power the new model will produce, but rumors suggest that it could have 470 horsepower (355 kilowatts), and 455 pounds (616 Newton-meters). This gives it an advantage over the outgoing model which produced 435-horsepower (324 kilowatts), and 400 pounds (542 Newton-meters).
The potential for a Boss 302 new Boss 302 is still unknown. Only time will tell.
