The next S63 may only be available in electrified form.
Mercedes-AMG’s GT Concept was unveiled more than three decades ago. It featured a plug-in hybrid powertrain that produced 805 horsepower (600kilowatts). As a more sporty version of the CLS, the Geneva showcar was transformed into the GT 4-Door Coupe. The GT 63 S without electrification is the top model in the lineup.
The report also states that AMG will no longer offer a S63 with a conventionally-powered engine, which means that the S-Class’s top athlete will only be available in an electrified version. The AMG S65 won’t be returning for the W223 generation. This is because the twin-turbo V12 engine, now with all-wheel-drive, will no longer be available.
Because the S63 Sedan will become the only full-fat AMG model in the next S-Class, aside from the S65’s death, the S-Class Coupe and Convertible along with their spicy S63 and S65 derivatives will be phased out.
The standard S-Class will be available for purchase on September 2nd, while the S63 is set to go on sale in the fall.
