Due to the E-Class, the upcoming W223 may only come with a long wheelbase.
Mercedes-Benz already confirmed the arrival the new S-Class. This is good news considering that the German marque’s SUVs are gradually becoming the big money-makers. It is the S-Class, which is the ultimate Mercedes sedan.
Although we have not yet received all the details on the full-sized sedan’s dimensions, there is one thing that is known: The upcoming Mercedes S-Class sedan won’t come with a long wheelbase.
Autocar UK has confirmed that the seventh-generation Merc sedan will not come with two different wheelbase lengths. It is internally known as the W223, and it was rumored that it would be available in a long-wheelbase version. The E-Class now measures 4,920mm (194 inches) in length. A short-wheelbase S-Class would be too much. Therefore, it was decided to keep the next-generation S-Class at 5,280mm (208in).
Even though nothing has been confirmed, we can take this rumor with some salt. At least, for the moment. Mercedes has a year to reconsider its decision. This timeline could see many things.
Based on recent spy photos, we can now predict that the upcoming S-Class will feature level 3 autonomous-driving capability. This is also confirmed by Daimler’s head R&D.
The new Mercedes S-Class could also have an EQ S version. It is worth keeping an eye on when and where it will debut.
