The New Owner Gets a Big Surprise From Wrecked VW Golf R

It isn’t a terrible one.

There are always surprises when buying a used car. We’re not talking mechanical gremlins that will drain your bank account. We love the pleasant surprises, the ones that make us smile instead of making us feel unhappy, such as Nickelback’s 1996 debut album . One owner of a broken 2016 VW VW Golf R could save a lot on repairs.

The BackYardBoyz YouTube channel purchased the Golf R online knowing that it had severe rear-end damage. The driver-side rear quarter panel is also gone. However, the most disturbing bit of damage to the Golf R is the rear wheel which has been bent and broken. This is not all bad news. It didn’t deploy and the car still drives and starts, even though it’s showing a warning about low coolant. The surprise inside will make it a more affordable repair.

Many of the parts required for replacement were included with the Golf R. The Golf R comes with many replacement parts, including a new bumper, side skirt, tire, diffuser, rear reflectors and door handle. Some pieces, such as a replacement taillight and a damaged bumper bracket, the body vent, or VW badging, are missing. There are several suspension parts that need to be replaced, including the lower control arm. However, it seems the driveshaft is in good condition.

This treasure trove is not available for every car. Most people find a few dollars worth of change under the seats or half-used oil in the trunk to be a great deal. The Golf R is even more impressive because it comes with several Stage 2 modifications such as a new intake, downpipe, intercooler, clutch and tune. The 2016 Golf R produced 292 horsepower (217 Kilowatts) in stock. It could produce 400 horsepower (298 kW) with the upgrades. Talk about the chance to win the lottery.
