The New Renault Kadjar Gets Sharper Style

It may lose the diesel engine.

The Kadjar was unveiled in 2015. It is one of Renault’s oldest SUVs. According to CarSalesBase , it’s far below the European SUV market leader with only 63,685 sales in 2020, compared to 149,845 of the Volkswagen Tiguan. This is a clear sign that Renault needs to develop a new model. We know this for a fact.

To prove this, we have a new batch spy photos with the 2022 Kadjar. They are showing the French crossover test somewhere in Sweden. Our spy team was able to capture two test cars in full-body camouflage, which disguises what appears to be a production body with headlights.

The New Renault Kadjar Gets Sharper Style

Although we don’t know much about the new Kadjar, this first look shows that it looks better than its predecessor. The proportions of the current model are fine, but the new Kadjar has a sportier look with shorter overhangs at the front and back. It looks very similar from some angles to the new Nissan Qashqai, also known in the USA as the Rogue Sport.

It shouldn’t surprise that both compact SUVs will use the same CMF C platform, which was developed in collaboration between Renault and Nissan. We expect the new Kadjar will launch with a plug-in hybrid system. Rumours have circulated about an all-electric model, but this has not been confirmed.

With the lack of a compression-ignition option in the new Qashqai, it may be that the days of diesel engines within the Kadjar range are over. The base offering will be Renault’s turbocharged 1.3-liter gas engine, with the hybrid powertrain being a slightly more powerful and more expensive option.
