This new model could see major powertrain upgrades.
The next-generation Toyota Camry has been developed in Michigan. This batch of spy photos gives us a first glimpse at the latest version of the beloved bestseller in the United States.
The sedan’s body is covered in cladding, from stem to stern. This does a great job of concealing the lines. The grille’s outline can be barely seen through the obfuscation in the front. However, it appears to have taken cues from current model’s pointed form. The Toyota emblem is also larger. The roof at the back appears to be steeper and connect to a smaller trunk.
The new Camry will likely share the TGNA modular platform and the latest Prius. Toyota would reduce the sedan’s size and weight by using the underpinnings. According to rumors, could be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that will replace the V6. The base engine would still be a naturally-aspirated four, but it could also use the more efficient Atkinson cycle. The range could eventually include a hybrid.
Toyota will likely put the new Camry on the market for the 2018 model year. The company will likely unveil the new sedan in 2017 or later in the year to meet this goal.
