The Past meets the Present: Audi Quattro and 2020 Audi R8 in The Alps

The R8 and the original Audi Quattro are both highly influential cars.

This scene is straight from an Audi fanboys dream: The original Audi all-wheel drive performance machine, Quattro the Group B rally beast, paired with the most powerful R8 V10 and driving through the snow-covered Alps. It’s not a fantasy. This YouTube video is from the Audi-centric channel Audiography.

The video is almost too beautiful to be true. Although the beautiful Alps are covered in a white blanket, the roads are clear. The combined sound of 15 cylinders creates an amazing symphony which seems to echo throughout the mountains.

It doesn’t really matter if you are an Audi fan. You’ll be an Audi fan by the end of this video. It’s impossible to not feast your eyes on these amazing machines, set against this backdrop.

The Past meets the Present: Audi Quattro and 2020 Audi R8 in The Alps

We can’t help but notice the original Audi Quattro, despite all the new machinery. It is hard to overstate the historical significance of the Quattro.

The Audi Quattro was a pioneer in rally racing, thanks to its all-wheel drive system. It also performed well on the streets. This version was capable of 230 horsepower, which was impressive back in the 1980s performance-deprived era.

The Audi Quattro Sports variant actually produced more than 300 horsepower. Think about the fact that 35 years ago Audi engine produced half the horsepower of the R8 V10 with half the number of cylinders. That’s quite impressive.

The R8 V10 isn’t a great car, but it’s not a game-changer. The proved that supercars can be reliable, simple to drive, yet still powerful and fast when it was first released in 2006.

In 35 years, where will Audi be? We hope so.
