Recent rumors confirm what we have already heard about Titan’s death.
Detroit automakers dominate the North American fullsize pickup truck market. Other brands have been tempted to enter this lucrative segment. It also happens to be the largest motoring segment. If new rumors about Titan prove true, Nissan may be leaving soon.
Automotive News has the latest gossip about the Nissan Titan. It quotes an unnamed source saying that the truck is dead. According to the source, there is no plan to update or replace the current model. The truck could end up being built in 2024, or 2025. Nissan is trying to decide when it will end its big pickup.
Motor1.com reached out to Nissan for confirmation. The report was confirmed by a company spokesperson, who offered this comment:
“Regarding Titan, it’s an important part Nissan’s showroom and we’ve seen positive impacts from Frontier in driving additional awareness and consideration for our full size truck. For the 2022 model year, Titan will remain in Nissan’s truck line-up. ”
This is not the first rumor about the Titan’s death. A report was published in November 2021 that stated that Nissan didn’t plan to create a new Titan generation. However, it did not mention how long the truck would remain in production.
Although Titan sales have been far behind its rivals for many years, year over year sales were slightly up in 2021. It actually beat RAM to record the highest sales growth among full-size trucks in North America with 3.7 percent. Toyota Tundra saw sales drop 24.9 percent while Chevrolet Silverado fell 10.8 percent. Even though the Ford F-Series was the most popular, sales dropped 7.8 percent. However, we are still talking about 726,000.04 Fords and 27,406 Titans. For 2021, Ford’s sales dropped more than twice the total Titans.
The Titan is still available for purchase. The second-generation model was introduced in 2016, and has received a minor facelift for 2020. A departure for 2024/2025 seems reasonable based on this cycle. The first Titan was a 10-year-old pickup. If sales rebound, it could be a little longer.
