These are, ironically, not compatible with Phaeton’s luxobarge.
Self-leveling wheel center caps, first introduced by Rolls-Royce and now available for Volkswagen models for the first-time. Self-aligning alloy caps are described as “a touch more luxury” and can be removed whenever you need to replace the wheel. The roundel, as the name suggests, is always in the right place regardless of speed or position.
It would seem that such an item would work with the most expensive Wolfsburg model, the Phaeton. But it is not. These gimmicky wheel center caps will not work with the fullsize posh sedan nor on the Touareg SUV. This list includes smaller cars such as the Lupo, up! and Polo superminis, as well the T-Cross subcompact crossover. These will only work with vehicles that have 5G0601171XQI hubcaps if you know your Volkswagen product codes.
Four caps will cost you about £195 in the U.K. for a complete set. If you are interested in that kind of stuff, an official from the company says that the self-aligning wheel center caps can be seen at all times. James Woolfe (Accessories and Merchandise Product manager at Volkswagen U.K.) says that although we haven’t reinvented the wheel, “we know this new item will get some customers in a spin.”
It’s worth noting that VW isn’t the only brand to offer this item. Bentley sells these items for years. The Crewe-based marque introduced a similar product in 2009 for the Arnage and Azure, Brooklands, Brooklands, Continental, and Continental.
