The Supercharged Honda S2000 with 420 HP sounds great in top speed runs

The sports car can reach 163 mph thanks to its high-revving engine.

Honda has been begging Honda for the return of the S2000 for many years. Those who have the small sports car are still looking for ways to increase its power. Forcing induction is a common example. While most tuning projects we’ve seen used a turbocharger for power, the 2008 AP2 has a supercharger.

The additional hardware has increased output to 420 horsepower. This is a significant increase over the 237 hp of the stock 2.2-liter unit. The torque increase is not known, but we will remind you that the series S2000 had 162 pounds-feet (220 Newton meters) of power. It still revs at over 8,000 rpm, which is a joy to hear at full throttle.

This right-hand-drive vehicle, which is equipped with Dutch plates, looks amazing and has some mods beyond its supercharged engine. You can customize the rear wing and exhaust tips, as well as the screen that is integrated into the dashboard from the passenger side. We would love to learn more about the S2000 but we will settle for the Autobahn top speed. The AP2 was driven on a section of Germany’s magnificent highway at an unrestricted speed of 163 mph (263 km/h).

An S2000 equipped with a turbocharger unleashed 520 horsepower on the same Autobahn, which was slightly slower than this supercharged one. Although some might argue that fitting a turbo to the naturally aspirated high-revving engine is a sacrilegious move, it’s clear that the supercharger or turbocharger makes the convertible a pocket rocket.

The only way to get another S2000 is as an electric vehicle. With so many people going electric, and the sports car market shrinking, it’s unlikely that we will ever see another S2000. Although there are rumors that a Civic Type R-powered version will be available in 2024 we won’t hold our breath.
