It would be easy to think that a 4Runner as old as it is would see declining sales. But the opposite is true. The demand for the iconic SUV increased by 12.1 percent in 2021 to 144,696 units. Even though the fifth-generation model has been on sale since 2009, it is still in good shape. Toyota will not be switching to the new model for the 2023 model-year, but it is updating the vehicle’s look with a special edition.
Celebrate four decades since the original 4Runner was launched, and the 40Th The Anniversary Special Edition is retro-restyled with yellow/orange/red graphics that evoke the 1980s. The SR5 Premium trim level is finished in Midnight Black or Barcelona Red. The SR5 Premium trim level gets a body-colored heritage grille featuring large “TOYOTA” letters and a bronze 40Th An anniversary badge is on the tailgate The alloy wheels are 17 inches in diameter and the cabin is home to the stitching on seats and the gear knob. The headrests have an embossed anniversary logo on them. Even the floor mats are unique to this model. Toyota includes an electric-operated moonroof as standard equipment on the SUV.
Only available in 4WD, the 4Runner 40 th Anniversary Edition is limited to 4,040 examples. This plaque can be found on the dashboard’s passenger side.
The 2023 model year will bring the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert standard to the entire range. All trim levels have LED high beams that complement the LED low beams, fog lights and most grades. Toyota Safety Sense (TSS)-P is also available as a standard. Buyers can choose from either 2WD or 4WD models with seating for up seven.
We don’t know when the sixth generation 4Runner will be available, but we have heard that it will use the same platform as the Hilux for significant cost savings and faster development.
