There is no ABS or brake booster, which gives the driver a direct connection with the road.
The Volvo P1800 Cyan will make its debut in America at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, which takes place on August 9, during Monterey Car Week. Cyan Racing will begin accepting orders from US customers for the restomod. Prices start at $700,000.
Production of the P1800 lasted until the late ’70s. The P1800 was first introduced in 1960. Cyan Racing designed this restomod after imagining the modifications that would have been made to the car for racing in 1960s. However, it used technology from today.
The P1800 Cyan’s power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder that produces 420 horsepower (313 Kilowatts) as well as 336 pound-feet (456 Newton meters). The engine has a maximum speed of 7,700 revs. This mill can be found in the Volvo S60 TC1 racecar.
The restomod is equipped with a Holinger manual transmission, five-speed, with a dog-leg top gear position. Holinger also provides the rear differential with limited slip.
Cyan Racing has replaced nearly every component of the P1800. Only the original chassis, handbrake and hood release mechanism are still available. The underpinnings are made of additional high-strength Steel for added rigidity. Carbon-fiber body panels are joined to the vehicle’s structure by adhesive. This machine weighs in at 2,183 pounds (990 kg).
To accommodate 18-inch wheels, the body features wider wheel wells and a longer track. The greenhouse is also shorter than the original which means that the hood is longer.
There are also many changes to the suspension. Cyan has created a new independent rear axle design. The double-wishbone configuration at both ends can be adjusted, and owners have the ability to adjust compression and rebound for dampers at all four corners. Stiffness was adjustable on the rear anti-roll bars.
Cyan Racing wants P1800 drivers to feel connected to the road. This is possible because there are no brake boosters, stability control, antilock brakes or anti-lock brakes.
Cyan Racing was founded in Polestar, before Volvo acquired the brand. Cyan, which is completely independent from Volvo, focuses exclusively on motorsports. Christian Dahl, founder and CEO of Cyan Racing, stated that the company was established in 1996 in order to race Volvos in Sweden.
The photos of the P1800 Cyan show the car in its custom blue shade. However, The Quail plans to display the car in a different shade.
