The 2022 New York Auto Show will reveal the winner.
We are close to the 2022 edition of the World Car of the Year Awards. The winners will be announced at the New York Auto Show in April. However, we have now a complete list with finalists in all six categories. This includes the overall winner of the World Car of Year Awards.
The news is huge. It’s the first all-electric competition in the awards history, dating back to 2005. The final three finalists in 2021 and 2019 had two EVs each, but this year’s contenders are the Ford Mustang and the Hyundai Ioniq5 . There are two main competitors, as the EV6 (and the Ioniq 5) share the same platform. Although they have different aesthetics, there are key differences. For example, the EV6 offers a GT model with 576 horsepower.
The Ioniq 5 is also a finalist in two other categories: World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year. The Audi E-Tron GT will also be up for three awards, with the Mercedes-Benz E-QS as well as the Kia EV6 being in contention for two awards. Here is a list of all the finalists.
A vehicle must be manufactured in excess of 10,000 units annually to be eligible for the World Car of the Year Award. It must be available in at most two major markets between January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022. It must also be priced below the luxury-car price in major markets.
