It sounds nothing like your typical lawnmower.
Goodwood Festival of Speed is packed with action, as cars race up the hill. We’ve seen the McLaren 600LT and Italdesign T-R50 take to the hill, as well as the 2019 Toyota Supra. Honda also brought its Mean MowerV2 to the event, as one of the most unusual attendees to race up the hill. The Honda HF 2622 lawn mower borrowed the body panels and front cowl from the Honda V2 lawn mower. It has a loose appearance. It’s however heavily modified.
This lawnmower engine is not low-powered. Honda used a 999cc four cylinder engine from the CBR1000RR FirebladeSP motorbike to power this mower. This engine produces more than 13,000 rpm and more than 190 horsepower. The mower boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000 horsepower. Honda kept going back to the Fireblade parts box for a clutch and ECU, six speed gearbox, full-color LCD, and six-speed gearbox. The front brakes are four-piston and the rear six-piston. The top speed is said to be more than 150 miles per hour (241 km per hour).
It may look more like a lawnmower than a go-kart, but its performance does not make it less useful. Honda modified the blade deck to ensure that the Mean Mower V2 could still cut grass. The carbon-fiber blades are spun by electric motors powered by batteries. The mower’s design was enhanced by 3D printing and bespoke parts. This allows for more power and helps to keep the appearance of an everyday lawn-care tool.
The Honda Mean Mower V2 is seen rocketing up Goodwood’s hill. The mower stops halfway through the video and then continues without difficulty. It is not obvious why the mower stopped. It still looked like a lawnmower, even though it was heavily modified by Honda.
