This 1968 Ultra Van Motorhome for Sale is a Corvair At Heart

It looks great, even though it is over 50 years old.

It’s hard to believe that this egg-shaped motorhome has been around for 53 years. This is a 1968 Ultra Van. And, for the record, it’s not some strange Chevrolet Corvair that’s been converted into a camper. There is a Corvair engine at the rear, and it bears some resemblances to the Corvair’s shape. This particular motorhome is available for sale if you are interested in a piece of motorhome history.

This is notable because only 376 Ultra Vans were built from 1970 to 1970. They are quite unique. It boasts a monocoque construction that is similar to what you would find in a modern supercar. The Ultra Van Motor Coach Club’s website states that the construction looks more like an aircraft, with aluminum ribs and a mixture of aluminum and fiberglass as the body. It doesn’t have a separate chassis; it rides on an independent suspension front-and-rear. Power comes from the same flat-six 140-horsepower (104 kW) engine as the Corvair. The rear wheels are driven by the same automatic transaxle.
