Drag racing is for kids!
The minivan is a great candidate for a sleeping vehicle. It is slow and ungainly in design, but its primary purpose has been to transport people from A-B. We were still chomping at the bit to see the latest Auto Addiction video, which featured a VR6 minivan with 700 horsepower (521 watts) and a VR6 motor.
Although there’s not much information on the engine configuration, it looks powerful. It will be a formidable force in the quarter-mile drag race, with a 510-horsepower (380 kilowatts) MK.
The Sharan’s transformation from a people carrier to a straight-line specialist is very convincing. We couldn’t be convinced otherwise if it wasn’t for the sportsy wheels and tires. To preserve the sleeper aesthetic, the owners even skipped the removal of the factory interior to reduce weight. The semantics aside, the drag minivan was a bit off the mark when it began shooting flames from the exhaust while warming up to the event.
The race was predictable from the beginning. The minivan had an extraordinary amount of power, torque, and acceleration. It was able to get off the line quickly, spin the tires for two weeks, before connecting with the asphalt. The final result of the two vehicles departing at nearly identical times was hard to predict as we couldn’t spot any times. However, the sleeper VW reached speeds of 149 miles an hour (240 km per hour) in half-mile.
It doesn’t matter how fast this car is, but it sure brings a smile to the faces of race fans who watch it pass unsuspecting rivals. It’s refreshing to see a car built to have fun and not set any records.
