Watch out, Lambo Urus!

Rumours of a utility vehicle from Ferrari were circulating for many years. However, Sergio Marchionne confirmed those rumors last month. The supercar automaker is now “dead serious” about a SUV. However, it will take at least 30 more months to get a final production model on sale.

Marchionne stated that “We must learn to master this whole new relation between exclusivity, scarcity, and product. Then we’re going balance this desire for growth with a broadening of the product range.”

The first official details on the car will be revealed in the first quarter 2018. This is when Ferrari will reveal its five-year plan, which runs through 2022. We don’t have any expectations about the car’s design, which Marchionne described as an FUV. However, OmniAuto has prepared a rendering that previews the brand’s first ever high-riding model.

FX16, the project code internally, will share its platform to Ferrari’s replacement for the GTC4Lusso. Some reports claim that the utility vehicle will be powered by a hybrid V8 turbo engine. This sends power to all four wheels to improve traction.

Ferrari plans to use the SUV to increase its profits more than by 2022 and attract “new wealthy buyers.” Each FX16 will cost over $353,920 (EUR300,000.)

The first Ferrari utility vehicle will be up against Lamborghini as well as the Urus SUV production version when it debuts. It will debut in December, and go into production in the first quarter of next year. First deliveries to Europe are expected before 2018.
