It’s known as the “courtesy horn” because it is so polite that the car of the man was “granted Canadian citizenship yesterday”.Jokes aside, it is the simple idea that sirens, which are intentionally less loud than normal horns, are used to attract attention to other drivers in non-emergency situations. Let’s say someone is texting, and the light is green. It’s no big deal, so let’s go. It’s a tool for better, unconfrontational communication while driving.
The regular horns of most cars on the road sound a little angry and don’t convey the right message to the car ahead. The horn won’t register your touch if you try to give a quick honk.
The DIY device actually has three signals. First, there’s the friendly “courtesy honk”, then there’s an alien-like sound that is designed to attract attention to someone who isn’t in the car and finally, a train-like horn equipped with a small compressor.
