Only certain variants of the boxy crossover can be impacted.
The full-size Bronco was delayed to summer because of supply chain issues with its removable roofing. However, the rollout for the smaller Bronco Sport went ahead as planned. Ford’s Q4 2020 sales chart shows that 5,120 unibody crossovers were sold last year. However, it seems the Blue Oval is having problems with the Escape off-road version.
A new report by Ford Authority shows that ordering a power moonroof to fit the Big Bend, Outer Banks and Badlands trim levels will increase the delivery time by 4 weeks. The same applies to the two-tone paint scheme and gray roof for Badlands as well as the Class II Trailer Tow Packages for Big Bend, Outer Banks and Badlands.
Ford’s problems at Mexico’s Hermosillo plant are unclear. The Bronco Sport was in production in Mexico since October 2020. This could be due to production problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic, as other automakers have also had to deal with shortages of parts.
The report states that these issues do not affect the entry-level Bronco Sport. Customers interested in the base trim will not have to wait another month to drive the vehicle. If the four-week delay in delivery is unacceptable, customers looking for an upgraded version might check out dealer lots for used vehicles.
The Bronco Sport will be a North American product for the time being. There are no plans to export it. Its bigger brother has been left behind, but right-hand-drive models have not been excluded.
