It could be worth as high as $1.9million, according to estimates.

The 1953 8V Cabriolet, designed by Vignale, is currently the most expensive Fiat sold at auction. In 2015, it sold for $1.18million (EUR1,120,000) at Villa Erba. A Fiat that is even rarer and more beautiful could sell for a lot more at the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale.

It is a Ghia 8V Supersonic from 1953, with an unusual design to match its astrological designation. Carrozzeria Ghia from Torino designed the look. Only 15 examples of the “Supersonic” styling cues were ever made, out of the total 30-40 Ghia-designed models.

This particular one was displayed at the 1954 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Its impeccable condition suggests it could fetch anywhere from $1.6 million to $1.9million when it goes up for auction. It has no reserve.

It was shipped from the factory in 1953, with the chassis number 000049 and engine number 000085. The body stamp 810 is the only one of the 15 made. K.T. Chrysler, the Chrysler chairman, exported it to the U.S. K.T. Chrysler chairman arranged for the sale of the car and Lou “The Speed King”, a three-time Gold Cup-winning powerboat racing champion.

Paul Lazaros purchased the car in 1979. He restored it to its factory condition with a few modifications made by the previous owner. This included the relocation of the original engine to replace the Corvette aftermarket unit by Fageol. It received a comprehensive restoration in 2007 that included rebuilding the transmission, suspension, and dashboard switches.
