According to Yahoo News Japan, the Jimny vehicle that was converted to this purpose belonged to the instructor of the customization department. The teacher gave the students the task of turning the machine into a five-door model and then let them go. The students had the body and roof stretched behind the B-pillar to fit the additional pair of doors. They also had to modify the rear fenders because of this change. This build was a major time-consuming project for the students. The students only began in October, and the vehicle had to be completed by the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 14. Yahoo News Japan reports that the interior student finished the work at school and brought the pieces to the show to be installed.

This video is from January 8, and shows the extent of the work required to build this Jimny. The interior is not finished and there are still a lot of wires to be cleaned up. Tokyo Auto Salon’s Jimny features a lifted suspension and many exposed components. An external roll cage is also available, which includes a roof rack. There is also an LED light bar and pop-up tent in the space above. The tailgate has speakers. Suzuki plans to launch a five-door Jimny at the factory in 2022. According to reports, the company plans to increase the wheelbase by 11.8 inches (300 mm) and name the variant the Jimny Long. The two-door version would cost around $3,000 more.
