Subaru’s point-of-view tells the story of the new BRZ
Manufacturers don’t often share their development stories. Most people can’t bear to listen to engineers talk for hours about the process of building a car. Some cars are worthy of being told their story. Chevrolet has a two-part documentary about the midengined C8 Corvette.
Subaru is now sharing their story. The 2022 BRZ is their subject, and it’s clear that they are proud and excited about this new sports car. Although it isn’t as long as the Chevrolet documentary, we are glad to hear Subaru’s side.
Although it is easy to see the 2022 BRZ as a reskin, Subaru says there are more to it than that. The company adds that it’s not about extra horsepower. It is important to understand the original goals of the company before you can explain what they did.
Some questions remain unanswered. Subaru didn’t explain why the BRZ was kept naturally aspirated and not turbocharged. Some of these are implicit with product goals. They wanted the driving experience to be as simple as possible. They wanted to make the platform more rigid, but without adding weight, and to keep the car as simple and straightforward as possible.
It is also interesting to see that the BRZ’s development team was not that large. Subaru also sought the help of their Super GT GT300 drivers to get additional feedback. The video has a lot more information, so make sure to watch it. The video is only ten minutes long, so it will be easy to understand. Subaru will have all the details, but you can still get the whole story.
