Volkswagen is looking to expand its electric model lineup. Electric mobility is a hot topic in automotive these days. The world’s largest automaker, Volkswagen, currently has ten electric vehicles. These include the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 crossover, the ID.5 coupe and the ID.6 three-row crossover. Volkswagen recently revealed specifications for the upcoming van.

Volkswagen also plans to launch a subcompact EV called the ID. The target price will be around 20,000 euros or approximately $22,500 at current exchange rate. There will be two versions of the ID.2, the Urban and X. The Urban will likely be similar to an electric Polo while the X may be heavily inspired from the ID.Life concept, which was displayed late last year.

This is our opinion on the road-going ID.2X. Motor1.com Italy colleagues estimate that the EV crossover will be in production by 2026. The launch of the EV crossover might take place one year after the ID.2 Urban model. We took out the ID.Life show car jewelry to make our render look a little more traditional.

We replaced the front panel of the headlights with a pair of black headlights. It is unlikely that this will be made into production. Since the bumper had no openings, we also added intakes and ducts to it. The ID.2X is a budget-conscious model. Side-view cameras and pop out door handles will not be produced as the cost of production is prohibitive. This render also shows a fixed roof instead of the retractable top on the show car.

The MEB platform, which underpins many Volkswagen Auto Group electric vehicles, will be used by the ID.2X. The concept car was powered by a 62 kWh lithium-ion battery and a single front motor with 231 horsepower (172 Kilowatts) as well as 214 pound-feet (295 Nm) of torque. Volkswagen claims that the vehicle can travel up to 249 miles (401 km). This may vary for the production model. It might also have different battery packs, just like other Volkswagen ID models.
