The rugged SUV will be stationed on the Romagna coast between Cattolica & Bellaria.
Fiat Tipo was the last FCA product that wore the Carabinieri police uniform. A total of 500 units were dedicated to the patrolling Italian roads. The Jeep Wrangler has been recruited to renew the relationships between the Group and the police force, which is led by Sergio Marchionne.
Today, the SUV was unveiled in the Carabinieri fleet in the presence General Commander Giovanni Nistri and Deputy Commander Riccardo amato. Also present were Sergio Marchionne Chief Executive Officer, FCA, and Alfredo Altavilla, COO of EMEA Region. It will serve as a last hoorah to the U.S. offroader, which was replaced at the last Detroit Motor Show.
The Carabinieri Jeep Wrangler, also known as Gazella or Gazelle, will drive directly onto the shoreline Baywatch-style, and patrol the most popular areas of the Romagna coast including Rimini, Riccione, and Rimini. The Jeep is equipped with the Mopar One package. It has a two-inch lift, special shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar. 17×8.5-inch black alloy wheels are fitted with 32-inch oversized tires. There are front and rear splash guards and mudguards with sidetangs. There are flashing lights, sirens and a portable radio as part of the Gazelle of the Carabinieri. A 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine produces power, and is paired with an automatic transmission that produces 158 horsepower (118 Kilowatts) as well as 295 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters).
The Renegade Jeep was already present in the Carabinieri, flanked with the Fiat Tipo and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. These vehicles were used for special interventions, such as transporting organs or blood, and to escort institutional ceremonies. Also included in the team are the Fiat Panda 4×4 and Doblo and Ducato commercial cars.
