It would be great to have a bunch of these.
Tipo 184 is the right place to go if you have a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that you don’t know what to do. Now, the company is taking reservations on a conversion kit that transforms the Japanese sports car into a tribute the Alfa Romeo 158 – the most successful grand prix cars of all time.
The kit includes the space frame chassis and the body panels as well as the frame for the instrument pan. One of the coolest touches is the exhaust with four functional pipes and four fake ones to simulate the look of the Alfa 158’s supercharged inline-eight-cylinder engine. The brake covers make the discs look like drums in photos, but they are not part of the entire kit.
The 184 is currently not widely available. Ant Anstead, the creator of the 184, is offering 10 as part of a prelaunch offer. These folks will have the chance to build the car in his workshop with his guidance. The opportunity is priced at PS7,499 (or $10,100 at current exchange rates), plus VAT in the UK.
The Alfa Romeo 158 was first raced in 1937. It was a success in the careatte class until World War II, which ended Grand Prix racing in Europe. It was however eligible for Formula One in 1950, when the series started. Every race was won by a driver driving a 158. Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1951 driver’s title in an Alfa159, an improved version the 158.
