Two people can fit inside, and the telescoping ladder allows for easy access.

The Roofnest Sandpiper tent pop-up tent is a great alternative to the extravagant camping rigs we frequently feature on motor1.com. It attaches to your vehicle’s roof and gives you a place to sleep the night. The Sandpiper tent is very affordable at $2,795. Although the press photos depict the tent on a Toyota Tacoma the mounting hardware can be used on any vehicle, even vehicles without roof rails.

An aluminum rack supports up to 100 pounds and the tent’s roof can be used as a mount for bikes or other gear. Roofnest states that the interior is 6 feet 10 inches in length (2.083 meters), and 4 feet (1.219 metres) wide. There’s enough space inside for two adults. The interior is comfortable thanks to a 2.756 inch (7-centimeter thick) high-density foam mattress, and a 0.4-inch (1.cm) thick anti-condensation marine-grade mat. Accessing the interior is made easier by a telescoping ladder. There are four sections of zip-out mesh or canvas on the sides that allow you to view nature from the top.

More Camper Choices:

For extra storage, clip-on pockets can be attached to the outside of the tent. To make it easier for owners to climb down, they can lay a mesh mat measuring 4 x 6 ft (1.829 m) on the ground.

When not in use, the tent collapses and is attached to the vehicle by cross-braced aluminum rails with reinforcement plates. Additional security is provided by metal clamps that keep the tent closed to the road.
