This Subaru WRX Rear-Wheel-Drive Subaru WRX is a Smoky Drift Machine

You can drift, but Subaru is your life.

Are you finding it difficult to get through the week? As this article is being posted, it’s Thursday afternoon in America. Sometimes, a good cigarette can be all you need to make it through the week. Motor1.com is the place to be. But why is a Subaru WRX on the center stage? It’s a lot of fun and can do all-wheel-drive donuts so fast that astronauts would be sick. It’s not what you would call a true smoke machine, but it does provide the type of release that we want. It’s not a rear-wheel drive conversion.

It’s a drug and we’re addicted to it:

This is exactly what the 2008 WRX hides beneath its purple wrap. Christian Ngo, the owner of the Rex, confesses in this YouTube video by Hoonigan Daily Transmission that the Rex is his dream vehicle. Ngo also admits to drifting and that all-wheel-drive machines can be fun, but it is usually a lot of high-speed powerlides on dirt surfaces. Ngo was determined to have fun with his car and engage in tire-shredding sideways action.

Although the transmission is original, the center differential was replaced with one that properly disconnects the rubber from the front. A wide-angle steering system was added to achieve cool, opposite-lock shots. We aren’t privy too much information about the engine, but we know that this WRX has plenty power to blow up the hides with slow-motion donuts or burnout. That’s the satisfying smoke that we want.

It doesn’t completely obliterate tires, like the Hellcat-swapped Mazda MX-5 that we saw recently in Hoonigan. We have great respect for anyone who decides to build their dream car.
