This Yellow Porsche Boxster is Actually A… Lada

Aren’t all Boxsters equipped with drum brakes and large panel gaps?

Garage 54 is always there to bring you some crazy Russian entertainment. The episode this time is unique because the eccentric crew light up the screens with a first-generation Porsche Boxster. They want us to believe that.

Lada All The Dinges:

This particular Porsche is a little, well, lopsided. The bones of a Lada are hidden beneath the (mostly yellow) body panels. This is Garage 54. We’ll give credit where it is due. This build is quite ambitious. It features the Lada underbody and running gear, as well as drum brakes, and an 800cc engine at the front that generates 65 horsepower for both the rear and the front wheels.

The Lada’s wheelbase matches the German sports car quite well. However, some huge wheel spacers were needed to match the Boxster width. Even then, the wheels are awkwardly placed within the wells. It works because the engine is positioned far enough back that it can still be considered a mid-engine car. However, it is a front-midengine design. The interior is basic, with a simple control system for steering, shifting and stopping, as well as a seat and a few toggle switches.

It works amazing! This video shows the Frankenporsche’s test drive, which is about as smooth as you would expect. It is extremely light due to the fact that most of its components are missing. The springs are too stiff and it bounces around like a friend’s 1993 Honda Civic. However, the engine can still deliver a great performance even though it isn’t light enough. The car was not able to achieve the 0-60 time, but the video ends with a promise (or threat) to continue development to make the car more powerful.
