This is a solid performance by the old-timer.
The Ferrari F40 is something we’ve written about many times. But, the Italian supercar remains a legend. The F40, apart from its inclusion in Hussein’s famous exotic car collection is a supercar which left its mark on car enthusiasts. Much credit should be given for its iconic styling and exceptional performance at launch.
How does the F40 compare to a modern Ferrari like the 488 Pista Spider or the Ferrari F40?
Tiff Needell was the presenter of the show and he needed to learn more. The video embedded above shows their findings. There’s nothing quite like an old-timer driving a supercar that is 30 years old.
Despite the differences in decades, the powerplants that sit behind these cars are not wildly different. Both are powered by a V8, the 488 having a larger 3.9-liter engine, while the F40 has a 2.9-liter. The F40, however, wants the driver to steer the engine with its own gears using a five-speed manual.
The 488 Pista produces 710 horsepower (530 Kilowatts) as well as 568 pound-feet (707 Newton-meters) of torque. The F40 produces a respectable 471 horsepower (352 kW), and 426 lb/ft (577Nm) of twists.
The Pista Spider weighs more than the F40, by over a hundred kilograms. The numbers favor the 488 Pista, while the F40 isn’t far behind due to the age gap. What is the drag racing gap?
