You don’t have to settle for 35 horsepower when there are 2,600.
You might be a little crazy depending on whom you ask. Some people might run across a football field after having a few beers, while others might try bungee jumping. Some people may even attempt jumping from a car into a frozen lake. There are also those who see a small subcompact and think that it needs a jet engine.
This is not crazy. It is absolutely insane. We love it.
Who wouldn’t love to drive a third-gen Daihatsu Mira with 2,600 HP? David Nicotra, who is the creator and mastermind of the Daihatsu Mirada Jet Car, has given an estimate of the power output for this hot hatch. You say? It’s not very creative. We suspect David cannot hear you. There’s a freaking engine stuck halfway out of the car. You don’t need a catchy title when you have something so amazing.
It’s quite insane. Nicotra claims he has driven 320km/h in the tiny Daihatsu. This is close to 200 mph without going over. Although the Mira’s hatchback functionality has been lost, there is still room next to the driver’s chair for groceries. Although it might seem like there is more space under the hood than the stock engine, the truth is that the stock engine still pumps out 35 horsepower to the front wheels. The car is actually still available for road use in Australia, where Nicotra hails.
Although it is legal to drive, the Daihatsu spends his days entertaining people at special events and shows. Nicotra also has a monster truck, but it doesn’t seem as wild as the Mira. Both vehicles are on the show circuit, and we’re sure they bring smiles to all who see them.
