Electra Meccanica, a Canadian electric vehicle manufacturer, debuted two new vehicles this week at the Vancouver Auto Show: The sporty Solo R and the more sporty-looking Tofino. The Solo R is based on the same platform as the September introduction, but the new Tofino will add a sporty element. The proposed Tofino sports car, seen above in a rendering, would follow the same formula as the Solo before it. According to the company, the Tofino will start at $50,000 Canadian (approx. The Tofino will be available for purchase at a starting price of approximately $50,000 Canadian (approx. $37,000 USD). Delivery is expected to start sometime in 2019. Five unique colors will be available for the roadster, including Titanium Silver (Electric Red), Raven Black, Arctic White and Bionic Bronze. Interested buyers may make a $1,000 deposit through the Electra Mecccanica site.
The Solo R is a race-prepped version the Solo city car that was first seen back in 2016. It has a polarizing green exterior and features upgrades such as larger wheels, racing-slicks, bigger brakes, and an advanced battery system. The Solo R and Solo R are expected to be available in 2018. Mark West, President, Electra Meccanica, stated that “we are proud to show our company, as well as a couple of very exciting new cars at our hometown fair.” “These cars are a huge step forward for our brand. They represent the best performance we can achieve. Vancouver Auto Show attendees, and all others from around the globe, will be delighted.”
