These are the wrecks that you can see without worrying about someone being seriously hurt.
Richard Hammond’s recent accident in a Rimac Concept One as he was filming a segment For The Grand Tour highlights the dangers associated with the hijinks Jeremy Clarkson, James May,and Jeremy Clarkson. Wrecks are a mainstay of their entertainment on Top Gear as well as on their new Amazon series. Here are some great stunts that highlight how they make automotive destruction look so fun.
Reliant Robin
Jeremy Clarkson is more responsible for the Reliant Robin’s terrible reputation than any other person in the world. Clarkson largely cemented Reliant Robin’s infamy because of its ability to tip over in one segment. He then keeps the trike rolling. It’s a funny gag at first. But, it gets more hilarious every time the car flips over.
The Robin performs poorly when it is airborne, despite its name being an avian. May and Hammond tried to make a spaceship out of one. It was a failure.
Toyota Hilux
Top Gear did not help Robin’s international reputation. However, it only reinforced the reliability of Toyota pickups, particularly the Hilux. The crew attempted to dismantle the pickup in a series of stunts. This clip shows that even dropping a 23-story building on the verge of collapse was not enough to stop the pickup’s engine from starting.
After showing its strength, the Hilux was invited to participate in more Top Gear challenges. Clarkson used one pickup to construct the “Toyboata” amphibious vehicle as part of his effort to build it. The truck had an outboard motor at the rear, and it was mixed in its use as a watercraft. However, a later version successfully crossed the English Channel.
Jeremy Clarkson
Clarkson is more familiar with the problems that can occur behind the wheel than Hammond, who seems to be in more serious accidents. The Tall One managed to flip an Alfa Romeo 75 (also known as the Milano in America) while he was slapping a track.
Clarkson seems to be able to predict the future in this short video. The car proves it when Clarkson says that the Porsche 911 GT3 won’t take fools seriously.
James May
James May is known as the Slow One of the trio. However, he doesn’t always cause crashes. One of the most popular gags on Top Gear was Clarkson and Hammond colliding with May at every opportunity. You can see a compilation of all the bumps May has experienced.
The Stig
Sometimes even The Stig can crash. While performing the Power Lap at Koenigsegg CCX ‘s tamed racing driver lost his control and crashed into a pile. His pride was uninjured, however. The hypercar was later re-equipped with the “Top Gear Wing”, which cut the lap time from 1:20.4 to 1:07.6.
