Can the EV sedan outperform the kings?
Remember the tweet by Elon Musk in which he claimed that the Tesla Model 3 would be faster than a BMW M3, and handle better. Elon claims that it’s the car that will “beat any car in its class on track.” We are going to find out if that is true.
A new video by TopGear shows the all-electric sedan’s Performance version against three of the most powerful production sedans. The Model 3 is facing the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63S. The four performance cars raced on a 1/2-mile track. Elon, what do you think?
The Model 3 had a huge advantage over its ICE-powered counterparts at the beginning of the drag racing. However, the Model 3 was defeated by a piston-engine sedan, which showed that the top speed is important in these races and not just the acceleration of 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h).
Next is the handling circuit. It is very simple: the fastest person through each corner wins. The Giulia QV clocks in at 1:04.84. Surprise! Next comes the Tesla. It’s half a second faster than the Alfa, It handles better, but it also goes around corners extremely fast.
What’s TopGear‘s conclusion at end of video? Chris Harris agrees with Musk’s last year statements. The Model 3 Performance delivers exactly as it promises. It helps make the electric future a reality. This is probably why Harris purchased a Model 3 after reading this review. We have one request: The Model 3 Performance should be raced in all-wheel-drive performance vehicles.
