Top Gear pits BMW M3 against Tesla Model 3 Performance

Which car is faster: Acceleration, brake, cornering, drifting and acceleration?

While tweeting about specs for the Tesla Model 3 Power, Elon Musk stated that it would accelerate more than a BMW M3 and handle better. Jack Rix, Top Gear Magazine’s executive editor got both cars for and a thorough track test.

The Tesla won the first test, which was a quarter-mile drag race. Tesla completed the quarter-mile in 11.9 seconds at 112.6 miles per an hour. The BMW meanwhile, completed the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds and covered 119.1 mi per hour.

The BMW’s trap speed was higher than the Tesla’s, which shows that it had more acceleration. The results of a half-mile drag race might have been different.

The Tesla won the 0-100-0 contest in the same manner. This test is considered to be a better indicator of a car’s performance. The Tesla finished the test in 13.1 seconds. The BMW was just half a second behind at 13.8 seconds.

Hot laps were next. Although many might think the BMW would be able to out-maneuver the Tesla and win, this was not true. Rix was more confident in the BMW, but he also praised Tesla’s retuned regenerative brake system. This produced lift-off oversteer that is reminiscent of front-wheel drive hot hatches from the 1980s.

The BMW won the drift competition. Rix stated that the Tesla is quicker, but it’s not as fun to drive as M3. Although the Tesla felt a little heavy and cold, it proved that electric cars can be a lot faster than they were a few years ago.
