Japan’s Most Famous Highway
The perfect 86 for Japan’s most beautiful road – and it’s coming the U.S.
You’ll discover that Hakone, a mountainous resort with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, is also home to a famous hot springs resort. The Toyota 86 Hakone Edition doesn’t get its name from the famous hot springs, though it is very hot. This 86 instead borrows its name from the Hakone Turnpike. It is a highway that runs two hours southwest of Tokyo and is known for being one of the most scenic roads in the country.
The America-bound special86 has upgrades such as a custom Hakone Green finish, 17-inch “twisted” spoke bronze wheels and a stylish, yet subtle, black lip spoiler in honor of the famous snaking road. It also includes all of the standard exterior treatment options, such as LED headlights, fog lamps, chrome exhaust tips and power mirrors.
It’s possible that it all seems familiar. The distinctive 86 is almost the same Japan-only edition that was released in February. It’s only called the “British Racing Green Limited” edition (86) in Toyota’s native Japan and the “Hakone Edition (86) here in the USA. Confusing.
Inside upgrades include trim-exclusive tan or black Alcantara seats and tan stitching at the armrests and steering wheel. There is also a tan Toyota 86 logo embroidered on a passenger side dash. The trunk receives a different carpeting, with an embossed Toyota 86 logo on the front and custom tan gloves for the keys. The Hakone Edition retains the same interior features as the base 86, including heated seats and cruise control.
Toyota 86 New Arrives Soon
The engine has not changed. The base model’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine still works. It produces 205 horsepower (152 Kilowatts) as well as 156 pound feet (211 Newton-meters), of torque with the six speed manual transmission. Or, it can produce 151 pound foot with the six speed automatic.
This fall, the Toyota 86 Hakone Edition will go on sale. There is no information yet about pricing and availability.
