The same problem affects the Subaru Solterra.
Toyota just began selling the bZ4X earlier this year, but now it is facing a recall. According to a voluntary recall by Toyota, the first mass-produced EV has a problem that causes its wheels and tires to slip.
Owners affected by the accident have been notified via email, phone calls and first-class mail. They were instructed not to drive their vehicles.
Also included in the recall is the Subaru Solterra. This unit was created and produced side-by-side to the Toyota Z4X. The recall does not affect Subaru owners as there have been no Solterra units delivered to retailers or dealers.
It is still being investigated. Toyota has reported three cases of wheels falling off, one from Taiwan and two in the US. All three cases involved hub bolts loosening on wheels, to the point that the wheel was detached from the vehicle. This happened in two of the cases. Toyota issued a voluntary recall after verifying and reproducing the defect in its own testing.
At this point, the solution is still being worked out. The repairs will be covered by the vehicle warranty and owners of affected vehicles won’t have to pay.
The recall involves 661 Toyota bZ4X units and Subaru Solterra units. They were all manufactured between March 30, 2022, and June 3, 2022 for the Solterra.
Toyota is yet to identify which units of 661 affected vehicles, despite the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA), documents showing that one percent of said number has been affected. NHTSA stated that “1%” in the documents meant “unknown”.
The price for the 2023 Toyota Z4X is $43,215. While the price for 2023 Subaru Solterra starts at $46,220.
