They were quickly captured by the police
People are increasingly capturing automotive incompetence with dashcams. The camera captured the end of a police chase in which a pair of thieves driving a Toyota Camry drove through an intersection, lost control and rolled the vehicle before fleeing on foot. A view from a helicopter provides an additional perspective.
The Camry’s passenger crashed into another car while traveling down Interstate 4 in Florida. One of the four passengers in the Camry didn’t get hit by the bullet, so one called 911. The number plate of the Toyota was captured by their dashcam, while the man is holding a gun to his head.
The Camry’s men sped off, but the police helicopter saw them. The sedan was moving at high speeds through traffic, so it wasn’t difficult. Since the sedan won’t run from the helicopter, police cars tend to keep their distance from speeding Toyotas.
The Camry eventually arrives in an area that appears rural. The road narrows to one lane at the intersection. Dashcam video also shows that the road drops to one lane. This is enough for the Toyota’s to get some air. Combining being on the shoulder, being airborne and speed is enough to cause the driver to lose control. The Toyota eventually ends up on its feet after a long, slow transition to a roll.
Reddit user viewed the dashcam and helicopter videos and calculated the framerate based on Google Earth data and the frames. According to his calculations, the Camry was traveling between 102 and 164 kph (109 km/h) when it passed through the intersection.
They fled to the brush nearby, but one of the crooks quickly surrendered. The other one hid under the trees. The helicopter could see him. He gave up and was eventually rescued by the K-9 unit.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the driver was charged with aggravated fleeing to avoid law enforcement. The passenger was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and four counts of aggravated assault using a firearm
