The GR GT3 concept is also in development.
Toyota doesn’t rule out adding a sedan in its GR performance car lineup. A electrified version is also possible.
When asked about the GR sedan, Toyota Motor North America Executive Vice-President of Sales Bob said Motor Trend that he would “stay tuned”. He did not provide any further details or hint about the model.
There are only four sedans available in the US by the brand. There is already a Corolla hatchback with a sporty version. It might be worth expanding the offer to include a four-door model (rendering below). Although the Camry, Avalon are already available in mildly performance-focused TRD models but a GR version could offer even greater speed (rendering above). It’s not possible to make a hotter Mirai, as the market for this vehicle is so small.
Motor Trend also had a conversation with Cooper Erickson, Toyota of America’s Group Vice- President Product Planning Strategy and Product Planning. He stated that the GR GT3 Concept (see the gallery below), is currently in development. The GR GT3 was unveiled at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. It is a sleek-edged sports coupe. The company did not provide any information about the powertrain of the vehicle.
Later, Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson suggested the next generation Lexus RC would borrow styling cues form the GR GT3 Concept. He stated earlier this year that it was safe to suggest that the next global GT3 Lexus car could be connected. Erickson also spoke about the future of GR. We’re discussing electrification in GR. He said that electrification has a lot to do with delivering GR in the long-term. Erickson pointed out that it would take years before these models arrive, rather than months.
The Corolla will be available in the US later in the year. However, the hot hatch’s lineup becomes even more exciting during 2023. The Circuit Edition, with modifications such as a carbon-fiber roof or the stripped-out Morizo Edition, arrives.
