The logo design suggests that Toyota will retain the number 86 as the model name and suggests a 2.0-liter powerplant.
Car and Driver published a leaked image showing the alleged Boxer engine logo on the upcoming Toyota FT-86 coupe model.
Two horizontally drawn pistons are seen in the images, with the crankshaft at the center. This is the Boxer engine configuration. The number 86 is visible in that area. This, if the finalized image is correct, indicates that Toyota will use the number 86 for the vehicle’s production name.
The FT-86 name refers to the AE86 Corolla which was one of the most beloved rear-wheel-drive sport models Toyota produced in the 1980s. Toyota will source the engine from Subaru as it develops the vehicle. Subaru will also offer an FT86-derived model that is beloved by Toyobaru.
The engine logo also suggests a 2.0-liter powerplant. Subaru has recently created a new 2.0-lite Boxer engine. Both the Subaru and Toyota versions will have a steel chassis with aluminum panels.
The FT-86 Toyota model may be sold in the United States under the Scion brand. It will retail for between $20,000 to $25,000
