But, should Toyota do it too?
What size can crossovers be? Toyota would tell you that crossovers can be as small as pint-sized. The Aygo X, Japan’s largest carmaker, was introduced yesterday for the European market. It’s the smallest crossover they have made for the Old Continent. It could be described as aggressively cute, but they also made a GR version.

The Toyota GR Aygo X has not been confirmed. However, it is possible for the automaker to do so if it was a business case. It would be interesting to know what product planners present to the board in order to convince them to approve a mini-crossover with high-performance. The words mini-crossover and hot seem a little too jarring.
If the product planners are successful with this plan, it will serve as Gazoo Racing’s junior performance model. It shares its chassis with the Yaris so it shouldn’t take too much to add some go-fast parts or upgrades from the GR model. Even if planners convince their superiors, it is unlikely to have the -GR Yaris’s performance stats. It’s also quite insane to have 268 horsepower (200kilowatts), in a car that measures just 145.6 inches (3700mm) long.
They don’t have to rule it out but it doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t try it. These mini-hatchbacks are small and fuel-efficient. They can also be used to transport their children to school.
However, if we didn’t keep that mindset, we wouldn’t have the most outrageous hot hatchbacks. Take a look at the Renault Clio V6, Audi A1 Quattro and the unique Aston Martin Cygnet V8. There will always be an AygoX owner who is able to do more than the original intended power and performance.
