It’s most likely not possible.
Two amazing products from Toyota are taking the hot hatch segment by storm. The GR Yaris was the first Japanese carmaker to enter the market, and the newly introduced GR Corolla is a step up. It is the first Toyota fast hatchback to be sold in America in decades and is already getting a lot of attention. Is this a sign that there are more GR Corolla variants?
While we don’t have the right answer, we do know what a potential GR Corolla sedan might look like. The image above was created by Designer Xi Design in Hungary. It shows a three-box Corolla. It clearly shares its front fascia and the real-life GR Corolla, although it appears that nothing has been changed from the A to C pillar. This is where the virtual performance vehicle reveals its new design.
Although there is no view of the rear end, this rendering is most likely based upon the Corolla Sedan, which is currently available in the United States at a starting price $20,175 for 2022 in non-hybrid trim. To match the GR Corolla’s hatchback version, the vehicle has a large fixed-wing on the boot lid. The vehicle is very appealing to us. It looks a lot like a Subaru WRX from this angle. It’s not a problem.
How likely is it that this car will be produced? We think they’re very unlikely considering the conservative nature of the performance sedan market. Toyota plans to produce 6,500 examples the GR Corolla within the first year of its introduction. We expect that the future success of the series will be determined by how strong the global demand. Although we know that we want one, it’s not enough to allow Toyota to make this sports sedan.
