The ad is called “The Detective”; it opens with a wild-haired man entering a storage room. The blurry GR Corolla is driving by. The interior looks like a typical scene from a conspiracy theorist. The space is lit by a bright fluorescent light and walls are decorated with pieces of string that connect pieces of evidence.

The protagonist becomes obsessed with the GR Corolla. He uses a loupe for scans of images to find evidence. He tears down the wall and asks for a sign from the universe. In the background, a GR Corolla passes. The GR Corolla debuts on March 31 at 9:00 PM EDT (1:30 AM GMT April 1). Sales will begin prior to the end of the year.

The teasers suggest that the hot hatch uses the G16E–GTS 1.6-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine which produces 268 horsepower (200 megawatts). The GR-Four all wheel-drive system is used. There is a manual gearbox and rumors suggest that there may be an eight-speed automatic.

The GR Corolla’s drivetrain will be almost identical to the GR Yaris in Japan and Europe. Because the hot hatch is going to be larger and have four doors instead of two, the physical footprint will differ. It is not clear if the GR Corolla will be offered as a sedan. The teasers all show the Corolla Hatchback being the base of this model.
