Toyota GR Supra Faces Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 In Straight-Line Sprint

These results might not be surprising to you.

Yes, the Supra is back, and has received a lot of criticism for not paying enough attention to BMW’s work. However, the Bimmer engine underneath the Supra was a great platform for impressive performance numbers. Car Magazine’s most recent video compares the Supra to a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 during a quarter mile drag race.

It looks like we might have a lot of competition here. Both the Supra and Cayman produced very similar power numbers, with the former putting out 309 kilowatts (309 kW) while the latter puts out 410 horsepower (306 kW). The German competitor is now looking very grim when it discovers that it has a manual gearbox, compared to the Supra’s automatic. This can shift extremely fast.

The Cayman is almost on par with the Toyota thanks to clever engineering by the Stuttgarters. Things become predictable once you get the first traction. It is difficult to see the course because of the number of b-roll photos taken during the race. However, it was not surprising that the Supra won the quarter-mile sprint.

Contrary to popular belief the race was very close. The Japanese competitor finished in 12.51 seconds. It was just five-hundredths faster than its counterpart at 12.56 seconds. A rematch in the half-mile race could be possible to turn the tables.

It’s evident that these two cars are too good to miss the chance to battle it out on drag strip. Comment below to let us know which of these competitors you believe could win a roll-race.
