After additional adjustments beyond following the manual, it lost nearly 40kg.
Toyota USA announced the 2023 Supra with a manual transmission earlier today. It also spoke about an A91MT Edition. The coupe, limited to 500 units in Matte White or CU Later Gray, is based on Toyota USA’s 3.0 Premium trim and the 6MT. It adds cognac leather, red strut tower braces and a Supra badge in that same color. Inside the car, you’ll find an Alcantara-wrapped shift handle. In Europe, a Lightweight version is available that caters more to the needs of enthusiasts.
The Supra also gets the six speed manual transmission and new 19-inch alloy wheels. These, combined with the 6MT, help the Supra to lose 21.8 kg (48 lbs). These new shoes reduce the Supra’s unsprung weight by 1.2 kg (2.6 pounds) at each corner. The forged multi-spoke wheels, which are not visible in the images, follow the GR Yaris’ and GR Corolla.
Toyota takes it one step further. The Lightweight version loses the leather upholstery (also shown not here) and has a new sound system. Power adjustment and lumbar support were also removed. The BMW Z4’ssister models shave 38.3kg (84.4 lbs) in comparison to the six-cylinder model equipped with an automatic transmission.
Toyota’s European Division is certain that the Lightweight Supra will be the most loved. The A91MT Edition will not be available in the United States until 2023MY, but the most exciting sports car for Old Continent seems to be a permanent addition to the family.
According to Toyota, the 6MT was created “to meet the high demands and expectations of customers.” Toyota even uses the hashtag #savethemanual, which is a smart use of the hashtag considering that the GR Yaris and GR Corolla all have stick shifts.
The Supra Lightweight can be used as a stepping stone for the long-rumored GRMN. The six-speed car will be available later in 2022. Japanese customers will receive the updated model first. Deliveries begin in the fall.
