The roof of the coupe is lost.

Toyota teased earlier this month the GR Supra Sport Top Edition Concept. This coupe has a removable roof. Open-air Supra is possible, as the BMW Z4 convertible is also available. It has not been realized. Instead, the concept uses a removable roof rather than a retractable. Although we have yet to see it, new renderings by JONSIBAL on Facebook show a complete model.

To compensate for the loss in rigidity caused by the roof, the real car will need to be completely redesigned. It is much easier to create a series of renderings, and the ones shown in the gallery below closely reflect the actual concept. These renderings show the Supra with wider front fenders just like the concept. They also include a black ground effect kit which includes the slide sills and front spoiler. The arching spoiler is missing from the renderings. It looks more like a lip spoiler was added.

The rear quarter panel, roof and rear glass are all different in the teased concept and the renderings. While the concept shows the side window with the rest of its rear roof, the renderings show something more functional and production-ready. The concept could allow for more modifications to the car. The top, which is a two-piece piece that can be removed and stored easily, can be unlatched using a keyfob. To maintain rigidity, the team plans to add reinforcements under the car.

Rumours of a Supra with a removable roof date back to before the car was sold. There has been speculation about this possibility since then. But such a Supra never happened. Toyota made some modifications to the car between 2020 and 2021. We doubt that the automaker is finished yet. This concept could be a preview of something else.
