AWD vs FWD. You can choose.
We’ve seen that the Toyota GR Yaris has a small footprint. The rally-bred hot-hat has been seen to race against many other high-performance nameplates on drag surfaces, including the Honda Civic TypeR.
How does it perform on a racetrack? What is the performance of this little hatch compared to other small performance machines?
Mat Watson Cars (yes, Carwow) uploaded a track battle among the three similar cars. The Toyota GR Yaris proves its track prowess against the Ford Fiesta ST, BMW CS. This 11-minute video shows America against Japan and Germany. It gives you an idea of where the three-billion-dollar Toyota ranks in terms of track prowess.
Let’s compare the numbers in black and white before we start to watch the video. The 1.6-liter three pot engine of the GR Yaris produces 257 horsepower (192 kilowatts), and 266 poundfeet (336 Newton-meters of torque). It weighs in at 2,822 pounds (1.280 kilograms). These numbers are transmitted to all four wheels by a 6-speed manual transmission
Ford Fiesta ST on the other hand produces 197 horsepower (147 kW), and 214 lbft (290 Nm). Its 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine sends power to the front wheels via 6-speed manual. This lap time comparison shows that the EcoBoost engine is delivering power to the front wheels. It is lighter than the GR Yaris, weighing in at less than 2,600 pounds.
The BMW M2 CS is Germany’s most powerful contender. Its 3.0-liter engine produces 444 hp (331 kW), and 406 lb (550 Nm) of torques. This power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The M2 CS is significantly heavier than the others, weighing in at over 3,500 pounds.
Now that you’ve seen the numbers and are curious about their battle on the track, let’s see how they do it. We’d love to hear your comments in the comment section below.
