Toyota GR86 10th anniversary edition could be in the works

The new GR86 Premium 10th Model is hinted at by a Nissan forum.

Toyota and Subaru released their first sports car, the GR86 and BRZ duo, a collaboration between the two companies. The GR86/BRZ duo has improved over the years and Toyota is expected to celebrate the anniversary of the launch with a special edition model. Although the information isn’t yet official, there are strong hints coming from the internet community.

This hint is oddly found in the New Nissan Z forum. It discovered a VIN-decoder document Subaru had sent to the National Highway Transportation Administration. Although this document was not issued by Toyota it does cover the 2023 GR86 which will receive two anniversary edition models. The 2023 GR86 Premium 10th edition is expected to have a standard and an ES version.

The new anniversary edition models are unknown. They will likely be available with either a 6-speed manual gearbox, or an automatic transmission. Subaru’s EyeSight ADAS technology will be available on the ES model. This tech is only currently available for vehicles with automatic transmissions. The 2023 GR86 Premium 10th ES will likely be an auto-only model.

There is no information available about any mechanical upgrades. This means that the special edition models will only benefit from visual enhancements. The 2.4-liter boxer engine underneath the hood should produce 228 horsepower (170kilowatts). Subaru will likely not celebrate the anniversary in the United States. However, it may launch a limited edition model in Japan. However, nothing is known at this time.

For the 2023 model year, the Premium 10th Anniversary Edition models will be available. The 2022 Toyota GR86 will be available at a starting price $27,700, minus the $1,025. No matter what trim level you choose, the same 2.4-liter four pot under the hood will be available.
