You can even get a military version that has mounting points for machine guns and mortars.

South African armoring specialist 79 Series has introduced a revamped Land Cruiser series, which the company calls the Max3. The rig transforms the SUV into an armored vehicle that can protect its occupants from a bullet.

The Max 3 is certainly not a Land Cruiser. The front grille is large and the corners have stacked headlights. The body lines are very chiseled with many hard creases. For easier access to the protected cabin, there are suicide doors. SVI makes the machine available in single, double, and eight-passenger personnel carrier bodies. You can choose from left- or right-hand driving.

The Max 3’s stock version offers B6 ballistic protection. This means it can withstand a 7.62x51mm NATO bullet from an assault rifle such as the South African military’s R1 and an AK47’s 7.62×49 mm round. The body is protected by 1.5 inches (38 millimeters) thick armored glasses and steel plates.

SVI also offers the Max 3 with blast protection and B7-grade armor. This level allows the vehicle to withstand armor-piercing bullets. A model with this level of shielding is not allowed in South Africa. This permission can only be obtained by registered security agencies or government agencies.

SVI upgrades the Land Cruiser’s suspension to carry the armor. It also adds an extra rear anti-roll bar. The package also includes a new wheel-and tire setup. The Max 3 is powered by the Toyota’s stock engine.

The Max 3 is priced at 1.6 million South African rand (or $103,053 at the current exchange rate). Within three months of receiving your order, the company will deliver it.
